Dear Parents/Guardians,
It was wonderful to see so many of you at Meet-the-Staff Night. Thank you for sharing your positive experiences with us in a year that has just begun. Special thanks to our School Parent Council for helping parents register for media permission forms and learning about School Council and School Council programs. Special thanks also to our staff as they prepared for the evening on a day that started very early in the morning.
I want to send a quick reminder that Monday is a professional activity day and as such there will be no school for students on Monday.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - September 30, 2025.
On Tuesday, September 30th, we will observe Orange Shirt Day, a day dedicated to honoring the survivors of residential schools and reflecting on the deep impact these institutions had on Indigenous communities across Canada.
Terry Fox Run
Our Terry Fox Run may have been rained out yesterday, but our important fundraising continues. We are midway through GMS' two-week campaign and are 25% of the way to our goal. We are gratefully accepting donations until October 2nd. Please support our work to help raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation through the below link:

National Custodian Day
October 2nd, is National Custodian Day. We Thank our wonderful custodial staff for their unwavering dedication and hard work. From early mornings to late nights, they go above and beyond. We truly appreciate everything they do.
World Teachers’ Day
As you know, we are very fortunate at GMS to have such a high caliber team of educators who work tirelessly to create engaging quality programs and activities for our learners. On October 5th, World Teachers' Day. We wish our educators a Happy World Teachers’ Day as it will be held on October 5th.
Royal Ottawa Health Presentation
We are excited to share that our Grade 7 and 8 students are being offered the opportunity to attend a presentation on October 17th @ 11:00 am.
This presentation will introduce the students to a cooperative program between the Ottawa Carleton District School Board and the Royal Mental Health - Care and Research team. The EIP program is a mental wellness program as outlined below. For more info, please click here.
Fire Drills
Our first drill was a great success. We typically hold three fire drills in the first couple months of school. The next drill will be a surprise to students and the third drill will be a surprise to all staff including the office staff and principal.
Yom Kippur - October 2, 2025
Yom Kippur is an important time of celebration, introspection, and reflection for Jewish families. Happy Yom Kippur to all who observed this day.
Dussehra - October 2, 2025
Dussehra is a day symbolizing the victory of good over evil in Hinduism. For many, it marks the beginning of preparation for Diwali, which occurs 20 days after Dussehra.
