Weekly Updates from the Principal - February 7, 2025
Greetings GMS Family!
We hope you are enjoying this marvelous winter weather! Oh, speaking of enjoying winter, we are days away from the first of three GMS Winter Wellness Days on Thursday, February 13! We’re reaching out to share an update on the preparations for our Winter Wellness Days, along with some important logistical details that you should be aware of.
Bowling As was the case last year, students are expected to bring indoor shoes for bowling as the bowling alley does not guarantee that they will have enough shoes to accommodate every student. The canteen will be open during our visit.
Skating/Indoor Soccer Students are required to bring their own properly fitted skates and a CSA approved hockey helmet. Skates must be transported safely with skate guards or they can be stored in a bag for safe keeping. Gloves or mitts must be worn on the ice at all times. We will do our best to provide skates and helmets for those students who would like to borrow equipment, but we can not guarantee that we will have all required sizes. Weather permitting, students will have the opportunity to skate on the outdoor skating trail. Students must be dressed for the weather conditions to be considered for this opportunity. Indoor shoes are required to participate and play on the indoor turf. Cleats are permitted as long as they are plastic. Metal cleats are not permitted. The canteen will be open during our lunch break.
Skiing/Snowboarding During the ski days, students are expected to come wearing weather appropriate clothing and should be prepared to be outside all day. Please check the weather prior to leaving and ensure your child has everything they need for the cold.
Skiing Equipment Drop Off The school will be accepting equipment drop offs as of Wednesday, February 12th. Although we can provide overnight storage for the day before the trip, we ask that equipment is not stored at the school over the weekends as the school does not have the space. Equipment drop off has to occur during some specific windows in order to avoid interfering with buses.
Skiing Equipment Drop Off times:Day before the trip: 2:45 - 3:15 at the front of the school. Morning of the trip: 7:10 - 7:35 at the front of the school.Gear Pick-Up at the end of the Ski Day: 2:45-3:30 at the front of the school.
Volunteers Thank you to those parents who expressed an interest in volunteering for these events! These trips would not be possible without your support.
Payment Just a reminder to parents, that all payments are due on school cash online by end of day on Monday February 10th 2025.

Report Cards...'Tis the season You can expect to receive your child's Term 1 report card electronically on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.
Report card preparation is pretty much an invisible process to those of you who are not teachers or do not live with an educator. However, the report card is the end product that summarizes all the teaching, and assessment of student learning that has transpired during the term. Marks offer a helpful snapshot of a student's progress. The comments flesh out the skills and attitude that a student brings to the process of learning and provide further evidence of their learning. Read those comments and gain insight into how your child is progressing and steps they can take to enhance their learning.
