Weekly Message from Principal - April 17, 2025

Dear Goulbourn MS Community,

What a delight today to see the students enjoying their social activities of dance, movie and board games!  We appreciated their level of participation and cooperation, and express gratitude on their behalf to the Students’ Council and Ms. Soni who have worked hard to organize today’s events.

Over the past week or so, many classes have engaged in the Caribou math activities arranged by Ms. Soni and carried out by their teachers. And all of our classes participated in two dance sessions with Luv2Groove; we thank Ms. Chugh for organizing their visit to GMS this week.  A number of “front of house” aspects of the Shrek Junior are currently underway: ticket orders, program printing and coming soon….stage building.  It’s almost show time and we all look forward to seeing the culmination of hours of work on the backdrops, props, and costumes which have all been lovingly created.  And it will be wonderful to see the performers reach their goal in the coming weeks.  Many thanks to the several staff members who have been involved in this long-term project, including Ms. Friesen, Mrs. Wiggins, Ms. Chugh, and Ms. Judd, as well as any whose names I have not yet discovered.

Mr. Jamal asks me to convey that he has greatly enjoyed his first days back at GMS this week and appreciates the warm welcome that he has received from students, staff and parents.  We look forward to continuing to share administrative duties over the coming weeks as he continues to recover.

This email comes to you on Thursday because there is no school on Friday 18th tomorrow or on Monday the 21st.  We look forward to seeing students again on Tuesday 22nd, after the holiday weekend.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Kimberly Power, Principal (Acting)

Federal Election

GMS is a polling site for Elections Canada over the holiday weekend as well as on Monday April 28th.

April 12-19: Pesach (Passover)

For families of the Jewish faith, Pesach began at sundown on April 12 and concludes on April 19th this year. . This springtime celebration of freedom and faith begins with the ritual of the seder meal, prayer and storytelling, as it commemorates the Exodus from Egypt more than 3,000 years ago.  We wish a blessed Passover to all students and staff observing this tradition.
