Weekly Message from Principal - May 23, 2025

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This past week at GMS has been truly eventful, featuring a variety of memorable activities for our students.

Our Spring Concert drew a significant crowd, with families filling the venue to witness the remarkable artistic abilities of our students. We extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Donkor, Mrs. Wiggins, and Mrs. Friesen for their dedicated efforts, and to all staff members for their invaluable support.

The Track & Field event was also met with great enthusiasm by our students. Our thanks go to Mr. Kelly and our staff for organizing and facilitating the various activities, as well as for their contributions to the planning and preparation. We also appreciate the School Council’s Megan Townsend, Valerie Marton, and Kim Davis, for planning, purchasing, and operating a highly successful canteen throughout the day.

Furthermore, students had the opportunity to participate in Lacrosse workshops, gaining hands-on experience and developing new skills. We are grateful to Mr. Derouin for coordinating this initiative and to all staff who assisted with its planning.

The week concluded with our popular Freezie Friday event. Our thanks to Ms. Soni and the Student Council for their coordination. Please note that our final Freezie Friday of the year will be held next Friday.

The final School Council meeting will be held this Tuesday, Tuesday May 27 at 6:30pm in the GMS Library.

Join us to share your ideas and to see how our School Council has contributed to the success of our school this year.

A virtual Google Meet option is available for those who cannot make it in person.

OSTA

A number of bus cancellations occurred this week.  We recommend parents and guardians subscribe to OSTA notifications to stay informed of any transportation changes.  Please visit www.ottawaschoolbus.ca and select subscribe to be added to the notifications list for Goulbourn MS.

We've observed a rise in misbehavior on the bus, and we're asking for your support. Please discuss bus safety and respectful behavior with your child. Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe and positive environment for our drivers and all students.

  • Stay seated at all times during the journey. Safety.

  • No eating or drinking. Safety and cleanliness issue.

  • No use of cell phones to take videos, photos, make social media, etc allowed.

  • Be polite, kind and respectful to your driver(s) and everyone travelling with you on your bus.  Your driver is part of our Community.

 EQAO

Our grade 6 students will be writing their provincial assessment test next week from May 27 to May 30th.  The 30th will be used only if necessary.  It is important to schedule any appointments around these dates if possible.  Also, a good night’s sleep is one of the best ways to prepare for this assessment.  Good luck to all of our grade 6 learners as they approach these assessments.

Freezie Fridays

Freezie Fridays: Student Council is selling jumbo freezies for $2.00 every Friday throughout the month of May to fundraise for fun end-of-year student social events at GMS. Thank you to the GMS community for supporting our first three Freezie Fridays. Two more to go! Jumbo freezies are $2 each.

Baseball Bats

Students are not permitted to bring a baseball bat to school to use during recess.  Those sports are played during gym and DPA under close supervision.
